Setup & Usage Instructions:
Installation: OSX and Windows
IMPORTANT! Ensure you have installed all the programs listed in System Requirements and that you’re using the latest versions.
On your iPhone, make sure you’re connected to the same network as your computer. This can either be your router, or an ad-hoc network running from your computer. If you’re getting slow response times using a router, try creating an ad-hoc network instead to link your iPhone directly to your computer. Follow this guide for Mac. To do this on Windows 7, you can use Connectify for free. It turns your PC into a wireless hotspot. Depending on your version of Windows, setting up an ad-hoc network varies slightly. Search Google for “adhoc network” and your Windows version.
Open TouchOSC Editor and upload the TouchOSC template to your iPhone by using the ‘Sync’ function. There’s a commonly reported problem of people having trouble uploading templates though TouchOSC editor. If you’re having trouble, hexler.net recommend that you try uploading the template to your iPad using iTunes instead. Just connect to iTunes, select your iPad, click the ‘Apps’ tab, click on TouchOSC and drag and drop the template in.
To connect on the iPhone, press ‘Settings’ on the iPad, then ‘Wi-Fi’. From here you can choose from a list of available networks. Pick the one you’re using; either the router or the ad-hoc network you’ve just created.
There are several ways to connect your computer to TouchOSC but it’s easiest to use TouchOSC Bridge. Open TouchOSC Bridge on your computer
Open TouchOSC on your iPad and go to Settings. Ensure MIDI Bridge is enabled and you should see your computer’s name listed. Press this to connect.
Open Traktor, go to ‘Preferences’, then ‘Controller Manager’. Click the large ‘Import’ button at the bottom of this screen and browse for the TSI file. Ensure that In-Port and Out-Port on this screen are set to TouchOSC Bridge.
Usage:
New in v1.1 of the TSI, there’s now a second bank of effects. You can access these by holding Shift and pressing the FX Mode button. The LED will glow much dimmer when in FX Mode Bank B. Button 1 controls the Gater, button 2 the Flanger and button 3 the Lo-Fi effect. Delay on buttons 4 and 5 remains the same.
Cue Mode:
When in Cue Mode, use the five main buttons to store and play hotcues. Holding the shift button down will delete them again. Buttons will light up when a hotcue is stored and turn off again when it’s deleted. If you select another mode and come back again to Cue mode, the stored hotcues will be lit again.
Loop Mode:
In Loop Mode, the main buttons will slice / mash the beat. Holding down Shift allows you to loop 16 bars, 8 bars, 4 bars, 2 bars and 1 bar. Once looped, you can switch to other modes to add further effects.
FX Mode:
Button 1 in FX mode performs a 1/2 note beat repeat. Holding Shift will make this a 1/4 note beat repeat. Button 2 performs a beat slice (again with variation by holding Shift). Button 3 is a filter LFO for creating sweep effects. Button 4 is a standard delay and Button 5 is a Freeze Delay (both have alternate effects with Shift held).
